Stabroek Rotarians in literacy day activities

In observance of International Literacy Day tomorrow, the Rotary Club of Stabroek has planned a trio of events which started on September 3.
Pam O’Toole, Coordinator of “On Wings of Words”, had addressed a gathering of Rotarians and guests at the club’s weekly meeting, emphasizing the importance of literacy for national development and the importance of it among parents.

Tomorrow,  a text message promoting literacy will be sent to all GT&T Cellink subscribers and on the same day the 14-16 year old students from the Buxton Youth Developers Group who won the essay contest topic “The benefit of Education to me and my community” will be presented with prizes. After which, the reading of stories to children will be done by the Rotarians at the Buxton Market place.

Stabroek Rotarians underscore the practicality of the UNESCO’s theme for International Literacy Day ‘Literacy is the best remedy’ and are  promoting literacy by encouraging families to get involved in joining book clubs and choosing educational books and volunteering at local groups to read to children.
