A 40-year-old man already serving 22 years imprisonment was handed a further sentence of 25 years by Justice Jainarayan Singh Jr after a jury in the Demerara Assizes convicted him of rape, buggery and robbery.

The convict, Rodlyn Abrams, also known as David Parker, was given 15 years imprisonment for rape, five years for buggery and another five years for robbery. He is already serving a 22-year-sentence for rape and buggery.

Although Abrams’ attorney Saphier Husain had requested that the past and present sentences run concurrently, the judge ordered that they run consecutively which means that Abrams will continue to serve his 22 years and then the 25-year sentence.

State Prosecutor Ganesh Hira conducted the case for the state.
