Berbice man dies after van slams into post

A 51-year-old East Bank Berbice man died at the New Amsterdam Hospital on Monday from injuries he sustained in an accident on the Belle Vue Public Road.
According to a police press release, Saheed Ramatulla of Overwinning, East Bank Berbice was a passenger in motor van, PFF 6831, when its driver lost control while speeding along the road and slammed into a lamp pole.

Both Ramatulla and the driver of the vehicle, Ramkissoon Ramatally, 36, of Gay Park, East Bank Berbice, were thrown out of the vehicle and injured. They were transported to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where Ramatulla died around 16:30 hrs, before receiving medical attention.

Ramatally was treated and sent away from the hospital and was taken into police custody. He is assisting with investigations.
