- four more runway lights disappear

The Timehri man who was reportedly found with a number of materials stolen from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport has still not been charged, but four more lights have disappeared from the airport’s runway.

So far 10 lights have gone missing and aviation officials along with the Joint Services have not been able to find the specialized lights.

The first six lights went missing last Thursday night and the remainder on Monday night.

Cables, fuel and other items belonging to the airport were unearthed at the Timehri man’s home, and police held and questioned him. He was released on station bail on Monday night.

Stabroek News understands that the man is a well-known businessman in the area and he has provided information to the lawmen about the source from whom he purchased the items.

This newspaper was informed too that at least two Guyana Defence Force ranks are being questioned in relation to the fuel, which was found in the man’s possession.

The delay by police in bringing charges against the man, this newspaper was told, has incurred the airport management’s dissatisfaction. So far, the police have not said anything about the status of the matter, neither have they said that the man was being held or questioned.
