The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day  Saints has donated 250 wheelchairs of five different sizes to the Ministry of Health’s Material Management Unit at Kingston.

A press release from GINA on Wednesday stated that this charitable act serves to complement the vision of the Ministry of Health in ensuring that every Guyanese in need of a wheelchair is provided with one. The average cost a wheelchair is approximately US$85, including shipping.

Minister of Health, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy expressed his appreciation to the church and noted that the donation was one of several co-operative projects between the two bodies that Guyanese have benefited from.

He recalled that several persons had to make do with uncomfortable wheelchairs since they either were too big or too small for them and so “this donation will indeed be a great help since there would be a chair for different sizes of persons.”

The press release also stated that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day  Saints has also been working closely with the ministry’s neo-natal resuscitation programme.
