Roraima plane skidded off Kaieteur airstrip

No-one injured

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is investigating an incident where a Roraima Airways nine-seater Skylander, carrying tourists skidded off the airstrip at the Kaieteur National Park on Wednesday morning.

Roraima Airways Chief Executive Officer,  Gerry Gouveia told Stabroek News last evening that as far as he understood the plane was close to landing and due to the dusty conditions ran  about 30 feet off the runway, hit a nearby ditch and one of its wheels broke off at the airstrip near the Kaieteur Falls at around 9:30 am.

Gouveia, who spoke to this newspaper from New York, said he was not clear about what exactly caused the mishap and added that the GCAA is conducting investigations. According to reports, no one was injured in the incident. Gouveia said Civil Aviation officials were taken by plane to the scene and another aircraft was sent in to bring the passengers to the city.
