The apiary group led by specialist Linden Stewart met with President Bharrat Jagdeo on Tuesday at the Office of the President where they discussed their efforts to garner support from sponsors for the upcoming Career Beekeeping Congress.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) release on Tuesday, the Fifth Beekeeping Congress is to be held at the National Cultural Centre from November 9 to 14.

Stewart along with other members of the group are appealing to persons to acknowledge the importance of beekeeping to farmers and the agricultural sector since bees play a vital role in the pollination process and enable faster expansion of trees and fruits and  better harvests.

The group plans to expand the entity for commercial purposes, especially in light of the government’s  ‘Grow More’ initiative. The group is urging the private sector to join them in the expansion of beekeeping and honey production.

The release further stated that Stewart represented Guyana at the third and fourth Career Beekeeping Congress in Jamaica and Trinidad respectively. The fifth congress which is to be held here is expected to be attended by a large number of beekeepers from London as well as professors who will make presentations.
