Court clerk held over missing case jackets

A court clerk of the Georgetown Magistrate’s court was arrested yesterday after the case jackets for the two senior prison officers charged with the death of prisoner Edwin Niles, went missing.

The case jackets for Kurt Corbin, 30, of N 27 George Avenue, Lamaha Springs and Gladwin Samuels, 26, formerly of 89 Oronoque Street, Bourda were discovered missing around 10 am yesterday.

According to reports reaching this newspaper a bailer for the men went to the court and requested to see the jackets. The jackets have not been seen since.

Niles died at the Georgetown Public Hospital nine days after he was admitted to the institution. A post-mortem report had showed that thirty-four-year-old Niles of Guyhoc Park died as a result of a blood clot in the lungs due to burns about the back and a fractured left arm.

The clerk is at the Brickdam lock-ups.
