Escaped prisoner shot in thigh

An escaped prisoner was yesterday shot in his left thigh in a confrontation with the police.
He was admitted a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital under police guard.

According to a police press release, the police acting on information went to an abandoned house at Kaneville, East Bank Demerara where they saw escaped prisoner Carlton Sampson 26, of Craig East bank Demerara running out of the building with a cutlass in his hand.

The police gave chase and the man jumped into a trench. A police rank jumped in after him and was attacked by Sampson, who was shot in the ensuing altercation. The released further said that Sampson escaped from custody from the Golden Grove Police Station, EBD on Thursday.
He was in custody for robbery under arms.
