China-Guyana relations lauded

Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Zhang Jungao and Minister of Labour Manzoor Nadir toasted to the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China at a ceremony held Friday at the Chinese Embassy on Mandela Avenue.

Minister Nadir, acting in the capacity of Foreign Affairs Minister and representing Prime Minister Sam Hinds who is performing the functions of President, lauded the Chinese government for continuing to advocate the interest of developing countries and maintaining close collaboration with Guyana at the multilateral level, the Government Information Agency (GINA)  reported.

“As a part of our development agenda, Guyana remains steadfast in its efforts to solidify the collective effort of likeminded countries to advance the interest of developing countries and bridge the gap between North and South. Guyana also values its engagement with China within the framework of the dialogue mechanism between China and the countries of the Caribbean,”  Nadir is quoted by GINA as saying.

Among those present were other government officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Members of Parlia-ment and representatives of the Chinese medical team in Guyana.

“China and Guyana have developed a multifaceted relationship ranging from frequent exchange of visits among leaders of both countries to dynamic parliamentary exchanges from increased trade to flourishing cultural events,” Ambassador Jungao is quoted as saying.
He alluded to the visit to China by President Bharrat Jagdeo and Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh as another example of the friendly relations.

China has the world’s fourth largest economy and only recently the country accomplished its first historic and successful space walk after three space missions.
This accomplishment, according to Minister Nadir, is an example of togetherness and determination of the Chinese people. The same spirit, he said, was demonstrated in the nation’s response to the devastating earthquake in the Sichuan Province and the successful hosting of the Beijing Olympics.

Ambassador Jungao extended sincere gratitude to the Guyana government and the overseas Chinese community for the support and assistance after the disaster.

Despite this disadvantage, Beijing successfully held the 29th Olympic Games which the Ambassador said allowed the world to learn more about China and its culture.
