Three men seriously hurt in Pearl crash

A car turned over along the Pearl Public Road, East Bank yesterday seriously injuring its occupants.

Ryan Prince, 24, Prakash Gopie called Avinash, 19, and Rakesh Ramnauth called Rocky, 33, of Diamond Housing Scheme were among the men injured in the accident.

Ramnauth’s relatives were present at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre up to 8 last night awaiting an ambulance to transport him to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). Radica Ramnauth, the man’s wife, said that she’d spoken to her husband.

According to the woman her husband had told her what he could remember from the accident. “…he say dem was driving along when the driver suddenly lost control of the car and it topple over.”

“…he taking oxygen and de doctor say that he get neck injuries,” Ramnauth’s mother related.

Earlier when this newspaper visited the GPH around 7 pm friends and relatives of Prince and Gopie were present. “They were going to the creek,” Gopie’s mother said, “was two car, one lef after de other.”

Another woman who was just outside of the Emergency Room was in tears and all she said was her 25-year-old son was receiving treatment for his broken legs. Four young men with blood-smeared clothes sat among the relatives.

Another member of the group stated that they were also headed to the creek and as they drove past the stretch of road at Pearl they saw the smashed vehicle and the driver, identified as Prince, sprawled on the western carriageway.

An eyewitness explained that just after 5 pm yesterday he heard “a loud screech” and ventured out of his house to investigate. “I ain’t see how de car get there but when I get outside this car was in de middle ah de road on it side,” he said.

“The top of the car de smash in and I honestly thought dem man dem de dead,” he continued to say.
The Pearl resident further said that a neighbour related that the car was speeding along the eastern carriageway when suddenly there was a loud screech, the vehicle turned over and the driver was pitched out.

Prince who sustained a deep laceration to head was said to be in a very serious condition. “He kept muttering that he can’t feel his legs and the wound to his head is still bleeding,” a hospital source said.

Gopie suffered injuries to his back, neck and legs and his mother said that she was informed that his condition was serious.

Three other men also sustained injuries.
