Four men, two of whom were armed, early yesterday morning robbed the owner of a  Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara Chinese restaurant of over $1.5M in local and foreign currency after threatening to harm his children.

According to the police, they are investigating the robbery which occurred around 12:10 am during which Su Quo Xi, 39 years, was relieved of $1M and $3000 Canadian currency ($555, 000) by four men, two of whom were armed with a handgun and a knife respectively.

Police said in a release that it has so far been revealed that the men entered the restaurant and ordered beers. While Su Quo Xi’s wife was serving them the beverages, one of the men held her at gunpoint and was taken behind the counter where the businessman was also held up.

The men then demanded cash and jewellery and threatened to kill the couple’s two children if they did not comply. It was at this point that the man’s wife handed over the cash after which the bandits escaped.

Up to press time last evening police were still looking for the men.
