CCWU inks labour pact with Cara Lodge

The Clerical and Commercial Workers’ Union (CCWU) has signed an agreement with Cara Lodge on behalf of the workers it represents there.

According to a press release issued last Wednesday the Agreement for the Avoidance and Settlement of Disputes was the first ever signed by the CCWU and the Cara Lodge and followed CCWU’s recent certification by the Trade Union Recognition & Certification Board.

CCWU is the sole bargaining agent for the hotel’s employees. The agreement signed covers the joint interest of the employer and the employees, the rights and responsibilities of both parties and representation procedures. The agreement further stated that the CCWU had the right to appoint union representatives from among the employees and to avoid propaganda and publicity that could cause injury to either side.

Signing on behalf of the CCWU were General President Fitzrgerald Agard and General Secretary Grantley Culbard, while Gavin O’Brien, Manager, signed on behalf of Cara Lodge. Chief Labour, Occupational Safety and Health Officer Mohamed Akeel signed on behalf of the Ministry of Labour.
