City department monitoring Mandela landfill

The Solid Waste Management Department of the Mayor and City Council says it is monitoring activities at the sanitary landfill site off Mandela Avenue.

According to a press release the department has an excavator and other equipment at the site to conduct its daily routines as well as to mitigate any negative occurrence.

The Council said too that officers from the Public Health Department have provided assistance and advice to residents of the neighbouring communities. The said department is considering launching a public environmental health campaign in that section of the city.

The Council said it is grateful to the public for its patience in this matter.
In recent months, fires and smoke from the dump have affected hundred of residents.
