Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson granted bail in the sum of $50,000 to a taxi service dispatcher who allegedly assaulted a police officer while being arrested at a police station.

Twenty-one-year-old Robin Ogle of A 51 East La Penitence pleaded not guilty to resisting lawful arrest, unlawfully assaulting police officer Wanda Savory and behaving disorderly in the public hearing when the charges were read to him on Monday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on Monday morning at around 3, Ogle went to the East La Penitence Police Station and requested to see a prisoner who had been in a recent motor accident. After he had visited the friend he then demanded his release so he could seek medical treatment for injuries sustained in the accident. Savory then explained to Ogle that the relevant papers had to be processed before his friend could be released. She said that he refused to listen and started shouting and using indecent language and later went out into compound and continued his ranting.  Savory said that when she attempted to arrest Ogle he slapped her hands away.  She said that he then held onto her shoulders and shook her forcefully and another police officer came outside to assist her but Ogle also fought him.  Ogle was soon arrested and charged for the offences.

However Ogle stated that all he had wanted was for his friend to be released from the lock-ups so that he could seek medical attention for his bleeding back and aching body.
The prosecution made no objection to bail and it was subsequently granted by the magistrate who transferred the case to Court 3 for November 6.
