Rosignol-Blairmont residents will soon benefit from the installation of a concrete bridge that will replace a dilapidated wooden structure under a $44M contract.

Region Five officials also signed a $22M contract to build Phase Two of a new secondary school at Number Eight Village. The construction will be done by Miller Construction Agency which did the first section of the building.

Regional Executive Officer Floyd France told this newspaper that the new school would “add to the complement of secondary schools and ease the overcrowding and would benefit over 800 students from Bath to Ithaca.” Both contracts were signed at the site last Thursday in the presence of residents, France, Regional Chairman Harrinarine Baldeo, Regional Development Officer Govind Singh and the contractors.

The $22M project for the composite reinforced concrete and wooden bridge is being undertaken by Aura Engineering and is expected to be completed within three months. France said that the Rosignol-Blairmont intersection is the main drainage area and that they [regional officials] along with the contractor have planned to approach the Guyana Sugar Corporation with proposals.

The bridge is also the main thoroughfare for residents who are pleased that the renovations are finally taking place.

They are hopeful that the project would be completed in the allotted time in order to minimise their inconvenience as there have been delays in finishing another bridge at Blairmont. In keeping with this, France asked the contractors to give their best effort though he cautioned them not to “sacrifice accuracy for speed but to deliver the project within the time frame.”

He has also given assurances that the region is willing to work with the contractors and has called on residents to become involved in monitoring the projects.
