A collision between a minibus and a CRV four-wheel drive at the corner of Camp and Quamina streets late yesterday afternoon left several school children nursing minor injuries. 
The accident occurred around 5:40 p.m.

This newspaper was told that the Route #44 minibus BJJ 6700 was travelling south along Camp Street, when he stopped just before Quamina Street to pick up passengers. After picking up the passengers, he was crossing Quamina Street when he was hit by the CRV four-wheel drive which was proceeding west along Quamina Street at the time. The impact from the collision caused the minibus to turn over on its side.

The accident left some of the passengers in the minibus – which included mostly school children – nursing minor cuts and lacerations about their bodies. The injured persons were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they were treated and sent away. However, there was much anxiety at the hospital as many parents and relatives gathered to find out about the fate of their children.

Meanwhile, Zerack Hamid, the driver of the CRV with licence plate PJJ 4700, said that his brakes failed him. He said that he saw the minibus stop and he decided to cross the street. He, however, said when he saw the possibility of a collision, he attempted to apply his brakes but they were not working.

On the other hand, the driver of the minibus Ganishram Sewnarine said that the man had to be speeding considering the fact that the impact caused the bus to overturn.

Both vehicles were badly damaged, but both men seemed eager to settle the matter out of court.
