Accused knife-point carjacker remanded

An alleged carjacker who was accused of being involved in the beating and robbing of a taxi driver on Saturday before crashing into a fence with the stolen car was remanded to prison on Wednesday when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the George-town Magistrate’s Court.

Jermain Wilson of Lot 474 North East, La Penitence pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery under arms.
It is alleged that on October 18, on Sussex Street, Wilson being armed with a knife robbed Alan Burnett of a 212 Toyota Carina car bearing number plate HB 5473 that is owned by Yusuf Alli, two cell phones, a pair of spectacles, a wristwatch and a quantity of cash, all valued over $3M.

Wilson’s attorney, Adrian Thompson applied for bail for him on the grounds that his client has another matter before the court in which he was released on bail and had since appeared back in court when the case was called. Thompson argued that it is likely that Wilson would return to court if he was granted bail in the present matter.

However, the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and pointed out that Burnett was injured as a result of the incident.

Magistrate Octive-Hamilton then ordered that Wilson be remanded to prison and that he appear in court again on November 11.
