Man granted $35,000 bail over ganja

A twenty-six-year-old man who was allegedly found with a quantity of cannabis in his possession was   placed on $35,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Gregory Niles of Lot 1 Durban and Chapel streets pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
It is alleged that on October 20, Niles had in his possession 4 grammes of cannabis.

However Niles’ lawyer made a bail application on the grounds that it was a small quantity of narcotics that his  client was allegedly found with and under such circumstances it should be granted.

The prosecution made no objection to bail and it was subsequently granted.
Niles was ordered to return to court on January 30 next year.
