A man who is accused of unlawfully wounding his ex-girlfriend and a man was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Nigel Hawke at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Shawn Paterson was not required to plead to the indictable charge of felonious wounding but he pleaded not guilty to four counts of unlawful and malicious wounding.

It is alleged that on October 17, Paterson armed with a cutlass unlawfully and maliciously wounded Debra Gibson so as to maim, disfigure or cause bodily harm to her. It is also alleged that on the same day he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Davis Kingston.

The prosecution objected to bail for Paterson on the grounds that he and Gibson had previously shared a relationship and  as a result of the present relationship between Gibson and Kingston he assaulted the couple by chopping them about the body with a cutlass in an alley, causing them to be hospitalized. The prosecution further posited that if Paterson was granted bail he might interfere with the couple and may not return to court.

Magistrate Hawke then ordered that Paterson be remanded to prison and that he appear back in court on November 24.
