Double amputee to have new home

Amanda Anthony, a double amputee all her life and a mother of two will receive a new home in another six weeks as part of a charitable initiative by the Lions Club of East Demerara in collaboration with the Human Services Ministry and other donor agencies.

The house lot has been identified for Anthony’s home which is an estimated $3M; she had approached past President of the Lions Club, Emil Grannum sometime ago asking for assistance in building her home and the agency responded by offering to help.

A sod turning ceremony was held on Thursday at Long Creek, Linden/Soesdyke Highway where Anthony resides. Anthony was born differently-able and has been living for the past 46 years with no feet.

A release from the Govern-ment Information Agency (GINA) reported that Minis-ter within the Ministry of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran commended the Lions Club of East Demerara for its long service to the community. He was quoted as saying that that ministry needs the assistance of civil society in assisting persons, adding that there is need for continuous support for Anthony and other persons who are disabled.

Regional Chairman of Region Four, Clement Corlette, who was also present at the sod turning ceremony, hailed the NGO for a great legacy of proud service to the nation.

Anthony has since received her allocation letter and her transport is currently being processed.
