Battered body of man found on highway

The badly bruised remains of an unidentified man were discovered lying in the middle of the roadway at Madewini, Linden/Soesdyke Highway early yesterday morning and it is unclear how he died.

A senior police official told Stabroek News yesterday that the man may have been the victim of a hit and run accident but there have been reports that foul play was involved judging from the position the body was found in and the extent of the injuries.

Police in a press release said that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. His body was discovered around 3 am and there were injuries to the head and feet.

According to the release, the deceased is of mixed race, about 50 years of age, dark in complexion, medium build, about 5’ 6” in height and was clad in blue short pants and a blue and white armless jersey.

The body is at the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Anyone who may have information that may lead to the identification of the deceased is asked to contact the police.
