ERC condemns Deepavali night attacks

The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) has strongly condemned the squib attacks carried out by revellers on the residents of Alexander Village and the desecration of the community’s Vishnu Mandir.

The ERC said it is especially disturbing that devotees who had gone to the mandir to perform prayers on Deepavali night were interrupted to the extent that they were unable to start their service.

Further, the Commission said it is sacrilegious to ruin a place of worship.

The ERC calls on the public to be respectful of religious and cultural observances in Guyana’s diverse and plural society.
