Two masked men armed with handguns carried out a brazen attack at a religious function in Princetown, Corriverton on Monday, robbing three persons of jewellery and cash before fleeing.

The two suspects were then caught red-handed on Tuesday when they attempted to break into a house at Race Course village, Corriverton.

The duo is also being linked to an attack on Sunday during which a man was bound and gagged by three men, two of whom were armed with guns, who beat him mercilessly and attempted to dig out his gold teeth before escaping with a quantity of items and cash.

Speaking to Stabroek News on Tuesday, Roupesh Narine called `Pandit Sunil’ said that around 7 am he was performing a religious function at his home for two persons when two men, one armed with a gun and the other a knife, approached them.

According to the Narine, the men who were masked instructed them not to make a sound and to hand over all their valuables.

He said the woman handed the men her wedding ring, a gold ring, two bangles and around $5000 cash while her son handed over a gold chain, a hand band, a ring and about $8000.

The men later took away his knife which he used during Hindu religious functions.

Narine recalled that the men called him “Pandit” before fleeing.

Police were contacted later and are investigating this incident.
