Damaged pump disrupts hospital water supply

Parts of the Georgetown Public Hospital were without running water after the pump at the institution was damaged owing to recent fluctuations in power supply. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital Michael Khan said the water went off around 4 am yesterday and engineers fixed the pump about five hours later.  Reports reaching Stabroek News are that the lack of water resulted in some operations such as caesarean sections being transferred to a private hospital. However, Khan denied this. He said water was made available for emergency surgeries while other surgeries were delayed. He emphasized that no life-threatening situation was created owing to the water shortage.  The CEO also said that the hospital was working on a new and improved water system to prevent such reoccurrences.
