More Guyanese for eye surgery in Cuba

The Ministry of Health is preparing to send more Guyanese tomorrow to Cuba for eye surgery, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.

And the Regional Health Services Department has advised that eye screening is currently ongoing at the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital at  Diamond, East Bank Demerara. Persons who are desirous of having an eye examination should visit the institution today between 8 am and 4 pm.

Screening exercises were done last Tuesday and Wednesday at this hospital and on Thursday at the Leonora Cottage Hospital in Region 3.

GINA said that persons who were diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma and diabetic retinitis are eligible to travel to Cuba for treatment.

On September 17, the “Mission Miracle” Programme restarted with 42 patients leaving for Cuba.
The eye programme has seen thousands of Guyanese receiving surgery and treatment for various eye ailments, GINA added.
