The club also recently commissioned its new den at Adelphi Village, East Canje and has completed a number of community projects. The 18-member club presented a children’s slide valued over $100,000 to the Canefield Nursery school and painted pedestrian crossings at a number of schools in the area. It also donated a number of food hampers and clothing to over 100 needy families.

Devin Sookraj, vice president of the Club said a number of other projects have been planned including more dental and medical outreaches and the construction of a gym in its new den. Sookraj said too a trip had been planned for Baracara up the Canje River and the club is in the process of acquiring a boat. He said that in the past the club had undertaken a number of major projects including building the Adelphi market and a number of bus sheds in the Canje area. It has also been providing free spectacles to persons.

Sookraj said club founder Rhyle Sookraj was recently honoured for his “long and dedicated work as a lion in the community.” Past District Governor Shabir Hussein attended that function.
