Hospital investigating claims that newborn fell

The Georgetown Public Hospital says it is investigating reports that a newborn fell to the maternity ward floor after nurses neglected a patient.

In a press release the hospital administration said it expects its investigations to be complete by today. Meanwhile, it said the patient, “Ms Carmichael and her infant son have been seen by the doctors and given a clean bill of health.” Mother and baby were discharged.

The hospital said too it rejected allegations in a Guyana Times article titled “Newborn falls on maternity ward floor” that nurses had assaulted Carmichael. Further, it is disappointed that the paper did not contact it for comment before publishing the article in its Tuesday edition.

The hospital said too senior administration officers are readily available to comment on any matter regarding the hospital.
