Citizens urged to pay up taxes

The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) is urging persons who owe the municipality outstanding taxes to pay up now.

It noted that it is authorised to sell both movable and immovable properties to recover outstanding taxes form the property owners.

In a press release issued yesterday the council said that the City Treasurer’s Department has an active department collection system that sends demand notices to people with outstanding taxes. The M&CC is urging persons in dire financial situations to visit the collection unit where officers will be available to discuss the best way to handle the situation.

The release further added that property owners should be reminded that rates and taxes are payable in four quarterly installments, which are due on the day demand notices are served.
