A Port Mourant housewife and her visiting relatives were robbed at gunpoint of their jewellery, cell phones and cash at Clifton Settlement, Port Mourant, Berbice on Saturday.

A police release said that the armed robbery occurred at about 1.45 am at a general store.  Parbattie Singh, her mother and sister who reside overseas and a porter were attacked and robbed by five masked gunmen men.

Investigations revealed that the men jumped over a fence and entered the building through an open doorway.

The men then held the victims at gunpoint and took away an undisclosed sum of local currency, US$500, jewellery and a cell phone and escaped.

The release also stated that Parbattie Singh’s mother was struck on her head with a firearm by one of the bandits during the ordeal.

Investigations are continuing.
