BV man remanded over robbery with aggravation

A man who allegedly robbed another man of a quantity of cash and a cell phone was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

John Beckles of 28 Last Field, Beterverwagting (BV), East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery with aggravation when it was read to him.
It is alleged that on November 11 at Croal Street, Beckles together with another person robbed Dexter Martin of a cell phone and a quantity of cash totalling $61,000.
The prosecution objected to Beckles’s bail application on the grounds that he has a similar matter before the court.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that Beckles be remanded to prison and that he appear again in court on November 21.
