Good manners walk set

Berbicians will take part in a `Good Manners Walk Race’ on Monday starting at 3:30 pm from the head of the Berbice River Bridge access road at Palmyra, East Canje to the Penguin International Hotel in New Amsterdam.

The race was organized by Eli Hazel, coordinator of the Unity of the Nation group which he founded five years ago. He asked that persons assemble at the hotel at 3 pm for transportation to take them to the starting point after which a lecture on good manners would be held.

Hazel said too that special prizes would be presented to winners of the race which he said was planned with the intention of getting persons to be more aware of carrying themselves in a respectable manner.

In his view he said “manners is like a can of worms; if you open it would get out of hand and it would be hard to control.” He said he observed that youths today do not show good moral behaviour and if they are not corrected early they would end up suffering.

Further, Hazel said “parents must not stop telling young people about the importance of being mannerly if we want to have a good society.”
