Guyana-Barbados group elects executive

Keith ‘Bunny’ Arno has been elected the new president of the Guyana Association of Barbados Inc (GABI) which also honoured outstanding Guyanese resident on the island.

According to a press release from GABI, Urvin Boston and Jermaine Adams were elected vice presidents; Dawn Holder, secretary; Susan Cadogan, treasurer and Yohlanda Cave, assistant secretary/treasurer. The committee members include Alicia Williams, Roxanne Davidson and Dale Hardy. Former diplomat Cecil Pilgrim was the returning officer.

Additionally, Wallace Edinboro, production manager at Mount Gay Distillery and Gloria Chung, jeweller and ceramic sculptor were recognised for their outstanding performance. The Barbados Investment Development Corporation selected Edinboro Manager of the Year (2006) and Chung was one of two awardees of the Governor General’s Award of Excellence at the National Independence Festival of the Creative Arts 2008. She also won for her gold ceramic entry ‘We too love Barbados.’

Management consultant Dr Aubrey Armstrong who was guest speaker at the function, and his interactive presentation ‘Christmases past in Guyana’ were well received. “He took the audience on a trip down memory lane with his reminisces including Aunty Olga’s (now Dame Olga Lopes-Seale) work with the less fortunate children, masquerade bands and the period of setting aside differences,” the release said.
