“I find de cooler on de road,” Wazir Alli told Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Wednesday  when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court accused of breaking and entering a woman’s snackette and stealing several items.

Alli, 33, of Stewartville Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara pleaded guilty to the charge of break and enter and larceny when the charge was read to him.

It is alleged that between November 25 and 26, Alli broke and entered the snackette of Jacklyn Johnson and stole an ice-cooler and a quantity of food boxes, totalling $11,200.

However, Alli stated that he found the cooler on the road and sold it to another man who was also arrested but placed on bail for the same offence.

He also stated that he knew nothing about the food boxes.

The magistrate then entered a not guilty plea for Alli.

Meanwhile, the prosecution objected to the bail application stating that Alli was well known by the police and he is considered to be a drug addict.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that Alli be remanded to prison and transferred the case to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court for December 16.
