Dharm Shala issues annual appeal

The Dharm Shala has issued its annual appeal for financial assistance to continue its work on behalf of the destitute and sick.

A release from the 87-year-old home which caters for all races and religions said it depends entirely on donations from the public and business entities to be able to discharge its functions. Its expenses involve not only day-to-day living costs, but also the maintenance of its nine buildings as well as electricity and water rates. The home said that the last two “have bitten off a great portion of the Dharm Shala’s reserve funds painstakingly accumulated over the years.”

The statement also drew attention to the traditional Christmas lunch given to the poor on Christmas Day and the party for poor children during the month of December.

Donations can be sent to the Treasurer, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, President or Vice President, c/o Dharm Shala, 140 King Edward Street, Albouystown; or Mr Edward Boyer, c/o National Hardware (Guyana) Ltd, Water Street, Georgetown.
