US-based Guyanese shot, chain snatched

A 26-year-old US resident was last night rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital after being shot in the leg during a robbery.

Relatives of Leon Young said he was standing at a corner chatting with friends in his home village of Vryheid’s Lust, when a gunman approached him, shot him, grabbed his gold chain and escaped.

Relatives of the injured man told this newspaper that the circumstances of the attack were very suspicious as it seemed that Young might have been set up. Relatives said they found it strange that none of the friends present during the attack saw the suspicious character approaching them or was able to provide any clear description of the man. Young was the only person attacked and injured.

Young is currently home on holiday’ he has been residing in the US for the last three years. Police are investigating the matter.
