The donation is expected to boost the organization’s capacity to help protect women and children from violence and abuse. This donation comes after previous help to the charity for an outreach programme among school children across Guyana which was aimed at educating them about domestic violence.

During the handing over ceremony, Fraser Wheeler said that the High Commission is supporting the government’s programme to tackle domestic violence, and has pledged its continued support to the Human Services Ministry.

He opined that if discussions with the Guyana government on the UK funded Guyana Security Sector Reform Plan progress well, his commission will be able to do a lot more to “help remove this menace from society.”

The High Commission facilitated the travelling of three members of the judiciary to attend a conference in England.  Justice Roxanne George, Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and Magistrate Haymant Ramdhani attended the Judicial Studies Board seminar on serious sexual offences.  Plans are in place to have a similar seminar in Guyana for all local judges and magistrates.
