Warrant issued for second man in Better Hope murder

A second man has been charged with the murder of sawmill worker Ralph Jacobs and since he is yet to be caught, Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus issued an arrest warrant for him last Friday.

Davo Persaud called Davo Simeon and “Scale” is jointly charged with Anthony George of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara for the fatal stabbing which occurred at Better Hope, North on December 5 .

The matter was heard by Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court last Friday and she subsequently issued the warrant for Persaud.

Police said in a release that the accused is 19-years-old and a resident of Lot 75 Tymon Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara. He is 5’ 4” tall, thin and dark in complexion. Anyone with information that could lead to an arrest, the release added, should make contact with the police. All information will be treated in strict confidence.

Forty-year-old Jacobs who resided at Victoria Road, Plaisance died from a single stab wound in the region of the heart following a heated family dispute.

According to reports, the man’s daughter and stepson were sent to buy a phone card in the Plaisance area but took a long time to return. As such Jacobs went in search of them and after an argument it is alleged that the man began kicking and hitting the boy.

It was at this point that the relative who stabbed Jacobs got involved in the incident which had turned into a fight. The relative allegedly attempted to play the role of peacemaker and it was during a scuffle that Jacobs was stabbed once with a kitchen knife that was handed to him.

The stabber was subsequently apprehended while police began looking for the person who handed him the knife.
