Region Three completes 88% capital works

Region Three says it has spent $178M on capital works as of November completing 88% of its capital works programme for the year.
According to a press release the administration built four bridges at Vriesland, West Bank Demerara, Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo and Friendship, Wakenaam.
In the education sector a total of $42M was spent to enhance buildings and to furnish and equip schools. A new school was built at Santa Mission, Demerara River and extension works were completed at the Vreed-en-Hoop Primary School. Construction is also ongoing at Parika Back and Windsor Forest primary schools. Additionally, sanitary blocks were erected at the Vive-La-Force, Clemwood and Bagotville primary schools. Two trestles were also built at Aliki and Bagotville primary while two ramps were built at Caria Caria and Morashee, Essequibo River.

In the health sector, $34M was spent to build the Belle West Health Centre, a satellite clinic at Tuschen Housing Scheme and three health posts at Parfaite/Harmonie, Zeelugt and Louisiana, Leguan. X-ray tubes, incubators and industrial ovens were also bought to furnish the health centres.

From a $41.5M allocation for road projects, four were completed at Parika, Tuschen, Stewartville and Sisters Village. Works are ongoing at three others: Goed Intent, Free and Easy, West Bank Demerara and Leguan. Four other roads were built at Vergenoegen, Uitvlugt, Hague and Nismes while two are under construction at the Guysuco Housing Scheme, Patentia and Goed Intent West Bank Demerara.

The release said too a new tractor and trailer, a slasher and an enclosed vehicle was also bought from a $10M allocation. Rehabilitation works were also done at the Parika Marketing Centre at a cost of $5M. A number of filing cabinets, chairs, fans and writing desks were also acquired.
