Taxi driver attacked at Hope

Police are questioning a suspect in an armed robbery committed on taxi driver Hardatt Dookoo of Enmore, East Coast Demerara, on Monday night.

In a statement yesterday the police said investigations have since revealed that Dookoo was hired by the suspect to go to Hope farther up the coast. Once he reached the village the suspect held Dookoo at knife- point and robbed him of $12,000 and a cell phone. After the armed man was given the articles he stabbed the victim in his right ear and both arms and at that point made good his escape, police said.

However, police ranks responded promptly and arrested the suspect. The police statement said a cell phone and knife have since been recovered.
