New body to raise the profile of Project Management profession here

The Project Management sector in Guyana is expected to benefit from greater access to formal training and regional and international networking opportunities in what has come to be regarded as a key developmental discipline with the establishment here of a sub-committee of the Southern Caribbean Chapter of the United States-based Project Management Institute (PMI), the leading membership association for the project management profession.

PMI,  which offers students of the discipline a specialized programme leading to the Project Management Professional (PMP) qualification also  promotes career development, sets professional standards and provides its members with access to information and resources.

The body has over 260,000 members in more tha n 172 countries and 30 special interest groups that represent a range of industries.  PMI also has 251 chapters worldwide.

Stabroek Business has learnt that recently, for  the first time, twelve Guyanese  have acquired the PMIs Project Management Professional qualification. Oswald Dey, one of the PMI graduates told Stabroek Business of the establishment of a local sub-committee of the Trinidad and Tobago-based Southern Caribbean Chapter of the PMI which he says will serve as a springboard to accelerate the role of the PMI among Project Management professionals in Guyana. …..
