I always try my best to embrace constructive criticism but the casual use of statistics by these missions could be a bit misleading to many.

Consider these 2006 US figures:

      Murder rate -17,034
      Rapes - 92,455
      Robberies - 447,403
      Aggravated assaults - 862,947

The 1996 figures on Road Fatalities for the USA and UK were 41,967 and 3,598 respectively, and in Nov. 2006 the UK reported that there were 63,500 adults living with HIV.

Stating that our road fatalities is 70%higher than the US is obviously frightening to any potential visitor, who for all intents and purposes may not even bother to factor in our population, so gimme a break with your figures.

Yes the crime situation is appalling, and yes we have many "road hogs" running loose, and yes the authorities are failing, or simply unable, to provide the necessary equipment and manpower to arrest these problems, but please don't "black-list" my country to serve your own agenda.

Maybe these "first world" countries, with whom we have diplomatic relations should be considering the ways they could assist Guyana instead of just posting their advisories.

Was it not "Good Old" England our Colonial Master who for decades transfered vast amounts of wealth from Guyana? And can we ignore the impact of the continued brain drain on Struggling Guyana?

These people have the gall to call for a change of the constitution to have Mr. Jagdeo as President again???? Please pull your heads out of the sand, and look at the crime, the lack of investment, the killer cost of living, the ridiculous exchange rate that has not changed since 1992, the mansions that the government officials live in, the gas guzzling cars and SUV's the govenment officials drive, the lack of technology in Guyana. Do I have to say more??

Come on I am no fan of the way the developed world does somethings, but please 16 years is more than enough for Guyana to at least make a showing that it is coming out of the dark ages.

The traffic fatalities and murder rate is enough to keep any potential visitor out of Guyana. Tourism has never take off and it will continue to do so. This lethargic regime has no clue how to administer and manage period.
They will do well to take a peek at how many of the islands put forward, administer and manage tourism.
Tourists flock to the islands where the beach is the only selling product. However, Guyana has so much vast rich wilderness and Georgetown itself can be a tourist mecca. If only they can keep the city clean and maintain things.

Unfortunately Ministers Manniram and Anthony will see this editorial as an anti government propaganda instead of constructive criticism or a cry for help. Sheesh what do we have to do to get them to fix the problems...THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES....THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES....

Mr Lall Singh here in the UK is a nice man but he needs to be proactive in reaching out to his monied Diaspora.

I hold a Guyana Passport which has been issued by the Guyana High Commission in London and yet the Guyana High Commission does not seem to know I exist.
It is high time these embassies collate databases (including email addresses) and harang the Diaspora with information and an informative local website to entice the Diaspora to visit Guyana.
With the right enticements the Diaspora may begin shifting funds BACK TO GUYANA.

Travel advisories posted by the Georgetown diplomatic mission is a start but there is still a long way to go.
