Dear Sir,
May I ,somewhat belatedly, join the thousands of Guyanese who were saddened at the death of your Editor in Chief.I knew David well during the 1950''s and 60's and enjoyed his company whether it was over the bridge table,on the rugby field or in the more serious offices of Cameron and Shepherd.I saw him again, sadly all too briefly, last Christmas at his birthday celebrations. It would be superfluous to add to the glowing tributes which have been paid to him by former friends and indeed adversaries because indeed he was a rather special person of whom Guyana should rightly be proud.
It seems to me that it is appropriate for there to be some permanent memorial to him .One such memorial, bearing in mind his huge commitment to unifying the aspirations of the Guyanese as well as the citizens themselves, might be for the Stabroek News to start a site something along the lines of "Friends Reunited" which enables Guyanese, wherever they may be in the world ,also their friends of old to find each other again. It could be named after David de Caires and might bring happiness to many people seeking out old friends and relationships.
Yours sincerely
