Toolbox

Dear Editor,

I was looking at the news tonight with Mr Karran purporting that Guyana Water Inc (GWI) supplies treated water to the citizens of Guyana and was prompted to write this letter. The last time I saw him on TV he was giving out the hotline numbers, and when I called the hotline, the person who answered directed me to another number which rang out.
I have written on several occasions about the problems we, the Mon Repos residents, encounter, but it seems that the water authority is only concerned about collecting their dues. Several years ago, when we had not been getting water for years, payment was still demanded. Some persons even had to pay off their old bills (for water they never received) before they could get connected to the new line. Now we have the new lines for several years but get dirty water from the mains. We have complained on several occasions to the authority on the East Coast, even taking samples of the dirty water to the office, but nothing has been done to date, although we were told that they would test the water and come to check the problem. To be honest, the residents mostly depend on rainwater from their tanks, and hardly use the water from the mains, which much of the time is dirty, and has worms and even fish and lots of slime, not to mention the smell.

I would like to urge GWI to investigate the reason for the dirty water, which I suspect is due to the fact that the lines were broken when the landscaping project was being done in Mon Repos. I remember on one occasion a broken main was pointed out to one of their staff and they just covered it up with dirt. I would also like to request the Public Utilities Commission to launch an investigation to ensure that this matter is dealt soon.

Yours faithfully,

…..here’s one of the many reasons the water biz by the Govt is failing to deliver,,
corruption !,, sound familiar? don’t read this wrong ,, i am unable to see how the Govt is responsible for the shameful situation,,who in the Govt can anyone blame ,,to me it seems that the govt is allowing the people to have free enterprise. Ever seen trucks on the road with the black tanks on them ,,here’s the skinny on them,,they fetch water that on most occasions they sell to the Govt,, from who they just stole the water
and the electricity to run the pump to fill the tanks ! what could be more lucrative??
The pump stations not only sell water to these trucks with the black tanks on them
any and everything that can be sold ,, fuel,, engine oil ,, and so it continues ,, the legacy of 28 years of shame,, GY in 360,, at its core is the germ of corruption that is constantly renewing itself from this core out,,
How does one treat a cancer that has metastasized ! to every cell of the body ! party politics is the parent of this incurable disease….,,
