Good moves

Dear Editor,
I wish to thank the management of the Demerara Harbour Bridge for two new policies which they adopted recently; firstly to allow drivers of left-hand-drive vehicles to pay their tolls at the window to their left instead of having to get out of their vehicle and go around, which sometimes causes a backup of traffic and sometimes swearing from other drivers. And secondly, to allow two lanes of traffic from the western side of the bridge to cross in the mornings for a short period, which has resulted in us drivers from the West Coast and West Bank getting to Georgetown less stressed and in a positive frame of mind, and not having to spend so much time, sometimes close to ½ hour in traffic.

Once again to the Demerara Harbour Bridge management, thank you and keep up the good work.
Yours faithfully,
Majeed Hamid

  1. bgsbny UNITED STATES says:

….. this is the kind backwardness that obtains in Gy ,, management had to be consulted and then board room meetings,, then drawing board ,, then to write it
into law ,, then all concerned must be so aware thru the paper work that has to be duly written,, and then circulated,, then put into practice ,, if all got the info at the same time !,, either all of the above or just plain destabilisation by those who demanded that all of the above be sanctioned by ” management ” ,, was it not possible for the ” attending staff ” to have applied innovative action in view of the variables that impeded the smooth flow of traffic at the approah of the left hand drive vehicles ?????? G”nese people in GUYANA y’all need to harness the
” mindlessness ” that pervades,, which brings to mind,, the escape of the suspect ,, from the lockups ! was the suspect the only person in the lockup ???????????????? if what is published by the ” dailies ” is the standard of journalism — or are they just reporters barely able to write essays to convey a
picture for the readers — that has long been a very controversial issue in GY ,, or can it be that the editors know and realise the level of a large % the readin public is satisfied with what they are given ! thus creating in the minds of the reader/s
speculations of race and fear ! fear and race are the two most destabilising factors in the equation of what is GY,,,,,,, any average mind who care to look at the two elements that is,, and has been,, constantly in the psyche of most G’nese
some of whom,, like myself,, who quietly departed since 1965,, still think about how frightening it was in the early days of the 60s to be anywhere in GY,, if you are an indian — colloquial,, indians are natives of india –so to deconstruct race and fear as it is in Gy ,, would have to be from the time the real indians arrived in GY ,, to where they are currently in the picture that is now very colourful with their blood ! and yet there are those in and out of Gy who find it necessary to continue
this brutish and psychological torment to others who they see as strangers and a threat ! harness the hate for race,, and eliminate the psychological element of fear ! can you ” let love live ” ???????????????????
