Dear Editor,
We are continuously bewildered by the way the government deals with information and how the Guyana Police Force operates. Partial or isolated successes do not hide the fact that the GPF is not now or in the near future capable of providing the required policing. The escape of ‘Skinny’ shows a lack of basic procedures and supervision. All involved should be fired. Unfortunately, the government, thanks to opposition tactics, is afraid to take the required steps to bring in some outside leadership to completely reform the police. Speculation about Sanata, Roger Khan and his spyware, Lindo Creek, forensic evidence and all ‘Fineman’ developments should have been handled in a more timely fashion and more fully by the appropriate officials capable of knowing or finding out the full facts.
The President must decide whether to accept slow change in the GPF or expedite it. Guyanese know security is the number one priority and will support steps to improve it. Forensic and crime scene investigators must be competent and independent as must be the Office of Professional Responsibility. These issues threaten the progress made and affect Guyana’s image abroad.
Yours faithfully,

The poor relationship between the Police and the people they serve is the culprit, it’s just that simple. To Protect and Serve means nothing to the average Cop, who sees everybody as guilty first, so proving ones innocence becomes the main focus of this relationship. Community Policing is about using the people as the information source and not the enemy. The GPF needs a new training policy that emphasizes SERVICE quick.
The government was given recommendations, proposals you name it.All is gathering dust.
