Dear Editor,

I agree with the sentiments of Pastor Kwesi Oginga of the elder statesmanship values encased in the existence of Eusi Kwayana (SN July 24).  His consistent championing of freedom, of democracy, of tolerance and equality over the span of some six decades ensures a legacy that may, unfortunately, never be touched.

The political climate in Guyana today is not conducive to Mr Kwayana’s recognition as recommended by Pastor Oginga. What is undeniable, however, is the fact that Guyana has been able to produce a leader who, but for the circumstances of selfish and power-grabbing politics, would have been our equivalent of a Nelson Mandela. God Bless Eusi.

Yours faithfully,
Robin Williams

More than a consensus. All your political side have been able to produce over the past six decades are intolerant triumphalists.

A cross section of the Guyana and the world will recognize Kwayanna to the same extent that they recognize Walter Rodney. Unfortunately those who come from your political end will have to resign themselves to accolades that come from shared ethnicites. Ain’t no better way to determine who was a patriot and who was an ethnic opportunist than that.

Mr Kwayana’s love for and service to our country is unquestionably outstanding. There is already consensus on that.

Some of us deliberately cast aside the time Sydney King spent with Burnham and what he advocated then. Some of us describe him in terms of Mandela, I say , one is chalk and the other is cheese.

It is not that one is wrong, as your Jagdeo obviously is now, it is to be able to admit it and move on to serve one’s country with distinction, something your Jagdeo is still to learn and still unwilling to do. He is in love with himself and the sound of his own voice. Not exactly a charismatic character trait!

…… burnham ,,, the paramount president — albeit illegal from day 1— made so many mistakes ,, one of them being the scrapping of the rail system in GY,, but he never admitted it was a mistake by him ,, so what he did ,, he made reid the prime minister,, and directed reid to say in a christmas message to the nation that the pnc govt: made a mistake when they scrapped the railway !….

i find it puerile to choose words to make phrases like “as your Jagdeo ” !!!!!!!!
