Dear Editor,
One letter captioned ‘Many countries use the Bell 206’ written by Mr D Persaud in the SN (24.7.08) caught my attention.
None of these air forces that Mr Persaud mentioned have the Bell 206 in a primary role. This helicopter continues to serve them in a secondary role. There is nothing wrong with the Bell 206 serving in a secondary role in any military or police force.
In Guyana, the Bell 206 is a primary member of the GDF Air Corps, a role it is clearly not suited for. The mechanical problems that have started to occur are bringing to life my private fears. However, being forever a devoted optimist, I continue to hope that these machines will serve the people of Guyana and hopefully one day they will be able to recover the investment.
Yours faithfully,
Sasenarine Singh

The Bellgate206 is just beginning.
Sit back and enjoy the cinematography as the saga unfolds.
Get your popcorn and soda ready!
I wonder what the priorities for spending in this Government are. Let’s see, buying new Prados, or securing the country?
Surely I don’t need to answer that.
The helicopters don’t seem to be having any effect on the crime, so the facts speak for themselves. Therefore, the need to distract the populous with issues like the media are necessary. Meanwhile people continue to lose their close ones, and children continue to be orphaned.
military force is for offence or defence. In guyana the military force is for observation and police work. The only neighbor guyana can probably beat in military conflict is surinaam.
So the purchase of military chopper is perfect for its task and assignment.
You got to be joking….. Didn’t Suriname gunboats evicted the drilling for oil back when there was no clear cut ruling on the law of the sea!!!
Get real buckman!!!
I believe Suriname also has tanks. And I’m sure they have good helicopters. I don’t know why you people worrying, Guyana got prados and that’s all that matters. The only country Guyana might be able to defeat, militarily, is Haiti.
The Bell 206 is the forward helicopter for military missions in the USA when it comes to surveillance and recon. It’s called the OH58 Kiowa. It is used as the primary machine for recon, patrol and other missions. Afterwards, the larger helicopters are called in…..in Guyana’s case…we cannot afford the larger ones….since they have been depleted over the years….as shown….we can only now afford the Bell 206……let them work and ….we can give the joint services support…..
