Dear Editor,

I have looked at the television reports by NCN and by Mr Moseley of President Jagdeo’s meeting with Guyanese in Antigua. Had I only seen Moseley’s report I would have concluded that the President’s address had not gone down well with the audience. I would have missed the loud applause and proud waving of the Golden Arrowhead by persons present.

I will be generous and assume that he probably was tired from the hectic schedule and dozed off, awakening only when those questions he reported on were raised. I have also read his vitriolic letter in the newspaper lambasting President Jagdeo and NCN. No President worth his salt will tolerate such disrespect. Hence the ban.

What is amusing and disturbing is how the media cleverly and deliberately shifted attention from the hostile nature of Mr Moseley’s letter and gave as the reason for the ban his “fair, honest, unbiased and professional” report. Not wanting to be left behind, those organisations and defenders of the people whose silence was deafening in the not-too-distant past have joined the fray.

However, it is my fervent hope that my fellow Guyanese understand the role of the media and that there are persons in the media who will distort incidents, misinform and mislead the readers and create mischief to achieve a particular objective. Do not be fooled!

Yours faithfully,
Carl Rogers

Are you justifying a dictatorial action of a government? Are you forgeting that Guyana is a democracy and everyone has the right to his views or is it only PPP people has this right? Even if Moseley’s report was unbalanced, that was no reason for the President’s unmannerly comments which drew Moseley’s reaction by way of his letter. As some one pointed out before that they are many ways to string a cat; in the future he could have been ignored at press conferences at OP and State House not banned.

  2. gtbeat UNITED STATES says:

Thank you Carl, I thought fair minded Guyanese were either excluded from expressing the the truth in here.
All we get is a daily dose from mindless individuals with their own agenda, they have aborted the need to be impartial and objective.
The PRIVATE MEDIA is now Guyana’s new opposition party.

    • gap1 UNITED STATES says:

Then let’s not read or look or listen to the “private media”, let’s just have the govt owned media feed us their usual pint of putrid-smelling amonia on concrete. No way! We would like to think for ourselves and not get a daily marching order from Jagdeo.

He would love that but we won’t.

  3. coolieman UNITED STATES says:

moseley was not banned for his report Evan he was banned because he has no respect for our president he deserves that next time maybe he will show a little respect

    • La vie est bonne! CANADA says:

What respect does Jagdeo show to the people?
He cusses out at the drop of a hat. Is that presidential? I think not!!!
Give respect and get respect. You can not demand respect!
      Get real…

    • gap1 UNITED STATES says:

Haven’t you heard, respect is earned, not demanded in a democracy?

  4. A380100 UNITED STATES says:

    Respect is earned.

There are good and accurate reports and there are bad ones, just like any other product one is free to choose which one they want to watch, but NEVER should anyone, be it the president, or any member of the government determine which news program the public should watch, or who should cover it.

The only justification the government would have is if a reporter has a questionable pass, such as a criminal record, therefore it becomes a security issue.

The public should beware of what they allow the government to censor, soon it may affect your job, or means of making a living, and some loose reason will be given for it.

…. with the exception of “coolieman”and “a380100″ the others have their own agenda of destabilisation as expressed in their comments ,,,,,,

it is easy to make and find errors of any given when standing on the periphery,,
when thrown in the core of the heat ,, those whose “brite” minds were beacons ,, all too soon becomes stultified from the preponderance of the “given” in the heat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. gap1 UNITED STATES says:

Sure, anybody criticises your Jagdeo has his own agenda. Terrible is it, this thing you call free speech?

    Deal with it1
