Dear Editor,
Can someone in authority do something fast to improve the condition of the Linden-Lethem road? It is in a terrible state. I travelled Sunday night and Wednesday night to get to Annai and then back to Georgetown; it was really a journey from hell. On both journeys I travelled with a mini-bus/submarine/mudmobile/boat as the vehicle had to transform itself into these various states to get to our destination. Craters filled with slush and water, in some cases up to 80m long, were the norm from start to finish.

In both instances the vehicles broke down, so a twelve-hour journey came closer to twenty. I was reliably informed that this is the case right up to Lethem, and this happens every year during the rainy season. Every year! Absolutely ridiculous!

Are we still so backward that we cannot recognise that an all-weather surface should be provided at least in these areas? I understand that to do the entire road is prohibitive financially, but I do know that much better can be done to improve its current state.

The Takutu bridge is now complete. Is this the road that will help make getting supplies from Brazil to Georgetown easy?  Come on Mr Benn, this road is long overdue for upgrading.
